1970-1971 Monte Carlo SS
#11
Let me clear up a few things on the SS cars.
First, the first generation SS package was only offered in 70 and 71 model years. There is no such thing as a 72 SS.
All SS cars have the 454/360hp (365hp in 71) engine and TH400 transmission. This is known as the LS5 engine. There are no documented LS6 SS cars or SS cars with 4-speed. They will also have RPO G67 load leveling, and the F41 heavy duty suspension with boxed rear control arms and rear sway bar.
It is difficult to document an SS car without the build sheet or pro-tect-o plate. For 70, the engine suffix code on stamped on the pad under the alternator will be CRN.
