Think of a jack-hammer just on a much smaller scale powered by a air compressor.

took a total of 4 combined hours(two seperate days) just wacking at the same spot over and over....
Make sure you have a full can of PB blaster, ft/lbs torque wrench, locktite & some white lithium grease or anti-seize.

Take a good look at this, it helped me out alot

Thanks again mike. That had to be record timing for a bearing change. If you really think about it...the actual change took less that 45 mins. Still had to lift the car and clean up the bay afterwards

if you suspect it is a bearing, you can drive at the speed the noise is happening, and swerve (carefully!) from right to left, and see if the noise stops, or changes in a particular direction. point to remember, if you are turning left and the noise is still happening, it is the right side bearing, this being from the weight transfer of the vehicle. also, if you have access to a jack or lift, you can raise the car and in some cases a slight shake on the tires may show some slack in the hub. a good hub assembly should not turn very freely. when you get it off the vehicle you also may be able to turn it and hear some noise in the assembly itself.
