I guess this thread got use pretty good, I still got a 4 bolt 350 and small block 400 sitting in the shop. I use to run them in my Nova at one time. I got out of racing and settle down a little but still like to feel the HP when it is there. I test drove a 2006 GTO 6 liter 400HP 6speed and it was pretty darn quick.A little tuning on that and i do believe it would do some sight seeing. The fun is gone from tuning from knowledge. Instead the great computer took it over now so you need$20,0000 to make your car run instead of a 5 dollar tool kit, the 21st century is all we got now. The good days when we run what we had is gone, One sensor cost 300bucks now while a 2 dollar set of points was all that was needed to keep it running. Dodge brought back some of the muscle cars now but what a paycheck you need to afford one. GM needs to get back on track and build some rear wheel cars with the HP of the yesterday years. The SSR took a crap and now they want the Camaro back but look at the price tag 40 grand or better and the ins. will kill you on it.The vette is ok but dang the price of it is a killer for us country boys anyway. We can't sell enough corn liquor to buy one now.The feds wants to take that away from us and price of sugar is gone up with the rest that it cost more to make it then to buy it already in the jug.So we loose both ways."LOL"Just had to put some fun in it..We all get the point with the old and the new we need knowledge and tech to work together now to make HP to work.I still like to put the engines to the max they can handle and still be street worthy..ifyou can get 320HP out of a 4cyl by gosh a V6 ought to be able to handle 300HP without a problem.Lets keep the old and new coming it makes a good topic for young and a little older...

Lmao, you guys are killin me!

or maybe I'm just overly tired since it's like 1 am...

FI definitely has it's place in history for a long time to come. I don't think there's a year that something isn't "improved" by being "chipped"

Granted, its all about controll... but I LOVE the simplicity of 3 moving parts, float, butterfly/slide (including throttle cable connection), and choke... Seriously... worked well for how many years? There was cars getting a good 30 highway MPG out of a carb.... it's the hydrocarbons, and the nitrogen oxides in the exhaust that got the EPA. Now they can run the car leaner than a carb would allow, because they gradually decrease the fuel as the vehicle warms up and less air is pulled in and all that.

I mean... you couldn't pay me to switch to a carb... but they still have their places... I bet 90% of us have one or morecarbeurated (sp?) engines in the household...

back to you guys talking about your mileage... the florida boys can probably tell you hwo short of a trip it is from Lakeland, FL (about halfway between Tampa and Orlando) to Daytona Beach is like 125 miles. my dad had a coronnet with a 383 and a six pack on it with a lot of custom engine work. he opened it up one afternoon in about 1979 going to daytona for the weekend. he left lakeland with a full tank, and had to fill up before reaching daytona. i don't know how many gallon fuel cells they had in them, but if it only had a 6 gallon cell, thats pretty bad mileage.
