oh don't get me wrong, those v6's are bad (minus the crappy tranny) my 3.4 can sqeal a mean tire, so don't think i'm dissin the v6. its just all the cons on v6's and FWD's all together that make me cringe at the thought of dropping that same amount of cash into that setup, when a 350 has much more capibility. and about the engine bay, who needs wiper fluid, battery relocation to the trunk. under the car - camaro hump cut n welded onto monte floor, exhaust will be redone on 350 anyway, gas tank can be moved.

really if it weren't for that god awful v6 sound and the lack of drift and drag capibilities compared to RWD i really wouldn't mind dropping all that money into the 3800.

but while we are dissing on the RWD thing and how outrageously expensive it will be, how bout this... an 06 ls4 swap with the existing v6. other than hellatious rewiring, what (perfect fit) problems am i looking at?

why not just do the drivetrain only? making engine mounts, tranny mounts, rear end mounts and a tranny tunnel plus a few other things seems moredo-able than the sub frame swap.imo... all montes should've been RWD!

I agree. It's a shame the 06/07 V8's are FWD.

Oh, and not to bash, but a standard 3800 doesn't really "smoke" tires. They can make them chirp, and sometimes on dry pavement you can make them squeel a bit, but I help my grandmother and drive her around in her 3800 regal, and it really isn't powerful enough to smoke tires.
I agree with most everything said so far in this thread, but I have to disagree with this post. Hell, I evenhave video of my car literally smoking the tires from a stop. Its not as easy as just punching the gas and watching the smoke roll out from under the fenderwells like my old Nova used to do, but it can easily be done. The whole trick it not letting the rpm's get to 6k, because in first gear it will automatically shift into 2nd and bog the engine.

My N/A 3800 is by no means "fast", but I just wanted to clear things up...

I just have to say smoking tires is not a problem for my monte. every summer at a local car show they have a smoke show (where cars light them up down main street of this small town). I thought it would be cool to enter a frontwheel drive so i wanted to test out the smoke ability of my MC so on a back deserted country road I let her loose and man it will smoke as good as any camaro or firebird i have ever owed! I hope it to be the Highlight of the car show this next summer! In which they except all kinds of entries My Intimidator will be there! When the time comes I'll post pics and Vids

Now on to the subject of the RWD conversion. I think it would be expensive (to Expensive) but i have oftened dreamed about my monte RWD and a 6.0L under the hood.

I watched a special on TV where Jay Leno had a old Olds Toranado (one of the first FWDs) and they canablized a vette and a special motor built by GM engineers to turn this car into a 1000HP twin turbo RWD olds whose sole purpose was to smoke a new Bently of some sort. and with all the auto make over shows on TV... I would like to see that done to my Monte like a surprise build on a show like overhauled, but an extreme engineering one with GM specialists onboard with the project, Maybe if we give the Idea to Leno he will have his Auto Minions do that for a Late model Monte.

So any i am rambling off in dreamland of my monte a 500hp RWD car that would be a complete Sleeper!

Well then you got a factory freak. My friend has a red 03 monte ss. He floors it, they squeal, and that's it, off he goes. I floor it, and they'll sit there all day and burn.

Awesome, that gen 5 gives me hope in RWD afterall! lol there isn't but a 3in. wheelbase difference in my 80 camaro n the monte, which wouldn't be that hard to compensate. i meen come on yall, if them circle freaks at NASCAR can do it then i believe i can do it. i went to the same freakin school(NADC)

-THEFULLMONTE. thats practically what i planned on doing, just making custom mounts out of the exhisting camaro mounts, and tranny tunnel. but for some odd reason it totally slipped my mind to make new engine mounts, thanx. i'm gonna take a look at that scenerio.

There was a guy that did this on MyMonte.com about 2 years ago or so if I remember properly. Cost was about $20,000.... but he does have a RWD conversion.
