Is that an old VW Bug you have those UIM pieces sitting on??

That is crazy to see! I think we've all heard about a melting condition but I've never heard of the thing exploding. I contemplated going to the aluminum UIM (and I've seen the same write up about making the switch), but I figured people have ran the plastic UIMs for YEARS and the worst I ever heard of was internal heat damage (prevented by replacing with a revised UIM).

It's a 72 Suzuki jeep 2 cycle engine, top speed 45-50 mph. A true speedster! LOL. It's mainly for messing around and going hunting, although it's mostly used as a beer getter right now.

The revised UIM's aren't that much better if/when your FPR leaks into the vac lines. The result is pretty much the same. Changing to an L26 was my plan all along, I just had problems figuring out how to work around the PCV system, but I finally figured it out.

Thanks for the link. I'll take a look into this because I don't want that to happen to mine either.

That's pretty nuts. You effectively turned your UIM into a bomb O_O
I honestly wonder if the aluminum intake would have actually withstood the fuel vapor exploding inside of it, or if it would have just been a less catastrophic looking break.
