Default troubleshooting a noise

2002 3.8L MC SS with 220,000 miles

It is a snapping sound louder than a spark jumping and throttle related. I am thinking it is an injector(s). It goes away if I rev the throttle a few times. I never had an injector go bad. Is there something else that goes bad this way?

Thanks in advance.

You sure it's not a tapping sound? Could be a bad lifter or low on oil....

A loud snapping and a spark??? Sounds like arcing to me. When arcing occurs, it causing mis-firing and RPMs to look goofy.

At night, sometimes if you mist water from a spray bottle, you can see where it's arcing. Usually it's a wire, so the other thing you can do it inspect each plug wire one at a time. You will probably find a a dark spot (and it may also feel "hard" compared to the rest of the wire).

It doesn't sound like a lifter or rocker. I did look under the hood in the dark and didn't see any arcing from the wires.

The wierd thing about it is that it goes away after a short ammount of time almost like a dry lifter. Are these rollers or hydraulic tappets?

It is due for plugs and wires so I'll dig into it soon. I really wonder if fuel injectors make noise sometimes?
