Dave at TEP has went above and beyond expectations with me. He spent hours on the phone helping me diagnose the car. He rush built my trans so I could make a show I wanted to make. The convertor got delayed (not his fault as it was shipped from precision to me direct) and it ran me into installing the trans Friday morning (the morning I was suppose to leave) I got the trans in around 7pm and needed a trans tune. Contacted Dave and he worked magic on my trans tune from his house on a Friday night until 2:45am eastern time so I could make my show. He never asked for a dime more for this service and is always there if I have questions. Sorry you had a bad experience with dave but every time I needed assistance he was always there for me.

Maybe he was busy helping me and couldn't assist you

Your tranny toast, solenoid won't fix it? If so, I think warranty companies are worthless, deal with them all the time at my shop. If it were me, I would pony up for a TEP tranny without blinking an eye, you know that the GM serta tranny will give you problems in the future if you plan on keeping it for a good while..Just my 2 cents. The old saying in my shop, we do it right cause we do it three times....Good luck

I'm reading this and so many people are giving Tadd crap for not going with TEP. Here's a few things that enter my mind:
- If I recall, the 4t65e is not a GM trans, but actually a Volvo trans.
- I'm not sure if GM is still using that trans in current cars (or when they stopped). But I'm sure since any of our Monte's rolled off the assembly line, the parties involved in building the 4t65e have been making improvements to them. I don't know that for fact, it's just an assumption.
- Even if the people building the trans are not improving it, when GM has them rebuilt, it is possible since they may control the rebuild process, perhaps improvements have been made.
- Many of us don't like the "dealership", Tadd has a long standing and to my knowledge extremely positive relationship with the dealership that services the Deuce. I admit, I have trust issues with other people working on my cars, but Tadd has built a relationship with people he does trust, that goes a long way.

When I look at TEP, I see a company that specializes in the 4t65e. I've read about many very happy customers. Heck, I saw John at the GM Nationals less then 24 hours from him putting in that TEP trans he has. ANd yes, he was happier then heck with Dave's service.
I actually contacted TEP for some general info once and got a fast reply.

If my Monte trans goes, I admit, I will give TEP a big look, but I don't know if that is where I will end up. There is a local trans shop here that has done wonders for people on all transmissions (they rebuilt the one in my '84 Camaro). For all I know, I may have them rebuild the trans when that day comes. I don't know.

I'm not saying Tadd made a wrong choice or a right choice, but he chose what he felt was the best choice AND what he was most comfortable with. In all honesty, if the SERTA trans turns out to be 100% crap, he has 100K warranty on parts and labor, nothing out of pocket for another 100K miles. Plus, again, he has a different relationship with the business that is servicing the Deuce then most of us have. So, let's say he finds the SERTA trans doesn't work out, say they warranty it with another SERTA trans, I am sure if there are problems, he can get satisfaction one way or another.
Considering how many miles all of us have put on our Montes, I think it's safe to say, that's a nice warranty and peace of mind. Maybe it cost more, maybe it cost less, but Tadd is willing to accept that cost and he's getting a peace of mind that 100K miles, he does not need to worry about the trans again.

So if you read my entire rant, I guess what I'm saying is, it's fine to hold an opinion about what Tadd chose, but stop making the guy feel like he has to repeat himself and justify his decision. Instead, feel free to share your opinions (considering that is what this thread was originally about) and wish Tadd and the Deuce many miles and lots of smiles!

Interesting a a side note.I drove Volvo's for sev years.I went to service it and my Dodge Ram transmissions at the same time since ATF4 was cheaper in bulk.I called a premier trans rebuilding company for a couple questions bout the diesel trans in the Ram(band adj while pan off) He told me do not run ATF4 in the Volvo or the Ram.His instructions were to by normal atf and add the friction modifier myself to the reg Dexron. Its an synthetic ester oil that keeps the clutch's dressed.Wow what a difference it made. And way cheaper also. The friction mod is sold by the bottle at NAPA.That Ram trans now has 451K miles and..well..a cell phone induced moment of stupidity caused the Volvo to end up with the tail lights in the back seat she hit us so hard. But its trans loved it as well.

I second this. Dave was awesome throughout the whole process, I was impressed. Hes like a 4t65e-hd encyclopedia. I had trouble contacting him by phone a couple times, but he did get back to my emails within a day or two apologizing for the slow response (I'd say within a couple days is pretty quick for it being the middle of tranny breakin' season). I don't know when the dude sleeps; he was answering my questions about shipping at 11 at night.

Killing a transmission sucks. Being without a car for several weeks sucks. Having to put a ton of miles on my boyfriend's car that has the same stock transmission sucks. Dave just made the whole experience much less stressful. Yes, GM offers longer warranties. But I'd rather not have to go through another broken transmission, paid for or not. TEP's reputation alone had me sold.

Whatever you end up choosing, good luck

Drive her to car shows even out of state ones

Enjoy driving her

Hence why you went for the GM trans, 100K warranty on parts and labor..... because you drive it and want assurance for plenty more driving!
