Transmission Gear Question

Transmission Gear Question
So, I was kinda playing around with my trans today by putting it in 1st 2nd 3rd and drive acting like its a stick...so, i take off in 1st, put it in 2nd then go to 3rd and then drive..but after that, i turned a corner and took off in 2nd, then when the car got to before redline (just as i was about to shift) it shifted itself...I thought that it was only suppose to stay in 2nd? Am I thinking of the gears the wrong way? Or are the gears only used for towing stuff?

Probably made like that so we don't all drive around in first gear and blow it up on the way home.
I think if you floor it, and watch it shift, it will shift a few hundred rmps before it redlines, but if you drop it to first and floor it, it will shift right at the redline mark.

Did you have fun?
Never do that again unless you want to spend over $1500 on putting another transmission into the car.
Get a tune or a stall if you think your shifts aren't aggressive enough. If you go to WOT, your car should shift at the right spots every single time as high as they can go.
If that car stayed in 2nd, it would bounce off the redline, not be good for the engine, your car was probably just throwing fuel at it, valve float, possible broken springs, etc. etc.

If you have it in 1st, it will stay in 1st. If you have it in 2nd, it will still use 1st, but it shifts into 2nd alot sooner. If you have it in 3rd, it will just keep the car out of OD.
And why is it not good to do that, Ive been told by many people that there is nothing wrong with doing that?? With my first car, thats all I did (yeah I know) ALL THE TIME when I drove, I always shifted from 1-2-3-d-od, didnt have it in OD unless I was up to speed and nothing ever happend to that trans? What could happen?

the transmission will take a dive because the pressure in the trans will wreake havek as well breaking all of the clutches. if it is not built to what a person likes to do it wont last that long do to how many things can go wrong.

Ah I see. I was seriously asking though. Now what about every so often if you're racing or somthing and you wanna take off at about 25 or so and you dont wanna wait for the trans to shift out of 3rd to 1st?? Still not good?
