Hi, I saw quite a bit about mobil dexron vi being the best transmission oil to add, especially since the dexron iii called for with my '02 SS 3.8 is no longer GM approved...I think is what I read...it was a post a few years old, and dexron vi came highly recommended, but I am looking all over online for it and every time I enter Mobil dexron vi mobil mercon v pops up. WTH? There are other brands of dexron vi, claiming to be compatible in all vehicles...that makes me more wary yet. Please give me a clue what to do here, lol. I guarantee when they put the new radiator in the transission oil I saw in the pan didn't get replaced, it hasn't been the same since. I'm having it checked by someone smart tomorrow elsewhere (if there's time, it's during an estimate on why I've got traction control and ASB lights on) and I'd like to be prepared to add with the right stuff and long necked funnel. If they don't have time I'll do it myself, I just have a sneaking suspicion I'll need to add.

It's rather common for the aftermarket oil companies to make multi compatible fluids whenever possible. They don't want to have to make and stock a different oil for each manufacturers spec, so they try to consolidate ones with overlapping specs like what you're seeing.

I'm confused why youd wait for the diagnostic to be done if you suspect its low? Why not just check the level and add it now?
