I was told buy an Not so good Trans shop in my area $1800 for a soft rebuild and $2600 for a full rebuild. I think that is on the upper end of average. I got a complete rebuild for mine for $2100. With a 3 year/50k mile warranty. I think Aamco is going to be around mid price range. I still suggest reading the reviews on the shop. Just so you know what you are getting your baby into.

Update:

I decided to email AAMCO before my last post and gave them a description as to what was going on. They got back to me this morning saying $2300-2800 and only a 12 month/12K mile warranty. Shady. They are total ripoffs. I am going to find out from the other two places how much and go from there. Once I decide, the car is going to be towed over there.

Question for the masses:

I am going to order a transmission from Milzy Motorsports. I wanted to have a 2.93 gear ratio in it, which I believe came with the L67-powered Monte Carlos.

Am I sacrificing a lot for this gear ratio? Will the car accelerate faster than the stock 2.86 gear ratio? I do a lot of highway driving.

You will be slightly faster coming out of the hole, but since you aren't doing any engine mods you will need to launch at a higher RPM to take advantage of the gear change. MPG will also decrease slightly, but not much.

The next items on the list as far as upgrades on my Monte is to get a 3500 for it and add a Wizaird cold air intake.

So I am stuck with AAMCO, which is the closest place to the house. I will have to drop the car off to them late at night when there is little to no traffic as I will have to pull the car over numerous times to just get it there.

Anyone know how much it would cost me to get the 4T65E rebuilt?
AAMCO didn't give you an estimate?

Depending on where you go...
anywhere from $1000.00 to possibly $1800.00 or more.

I'm not sure if this is all aamcos but I took my monte in because I blew the engine. That was the only place I could find a low mile engine. They tried to keep all my old aftermarket parts. And then I had to hassle to get the paperwork on the engine. Then to top it off I had a bad water pump and they knew about it but didn't tell me. I hope they don't try to rip you off. But I just wanted you to know my experience with them

Wow that's a lot. I would try to find out what they are going to put in it. Most Aamco ' s put in Original factory equipment. See if they are putting in the upgraded parts. Although I can't tell you what they are I can tell you that if the put OEM in then that price is steep and you will have the same problem in another year or so. Mine was done with the upgraded part and I got that certified 3yr/50000 mile warranty
And it only cost me $2100! I know the pricing in each area is different. The trans shop here in my town wanted $2300 to install used and $2800 for a rebuild. The least expensive trans shop had the best bargan.

Instead of rebuilding the current 4T65E, I have decided that I am going to just replace it. I am going to order one from Milzy with a 2.93 gear ratio. The shop that will be putting it in, is only charging me $600 to do the replacement.
