That's the only lemon part of this car if you ask me. If your trans is going to go before or around 100k then the trans is a lemon. Do yourself a favor and buy a rebuilt one with the weak points patched up. Sorry if I offended anyone when I say it, but you know it's the truth! Every other GM vehicle I've ever driven (or a family member has driven) has gone well over 150k without trans problems. I never advise anyone to buy a Monte unless they're prepared to invest time and money into the car and really have care about the style and heritage. It's also the reason why I advise many to keep away from certain Mitsu and Hyundai cars in specific. The Monte's are a sweet ride by far and worth fixing IMO.

Good luck with everything, is the OD going out?

i have function in all forward gears and reverse. OD works and the TCC seems to engage properly, just that little slip and jerk every once and a while in 1st from a take off.

but i couldn't agree more with the lemon statement. also similar is the instrument cluster going bad. i heard that's a known issue and i've delt with it as well. since got that replaced but for 500 bucks.. yikes.

check out this dicsussion here, it seems to be the PCS in the transmission. I have the same problem you have i just dont know where to buy the PCS.

The PCS is the underlying problem with these transmissions. The problem is by the time you pay someone to replace that selenoid you are probably 500-600 into it. The failure of that selenoid has likely done some damage to your transmission anyway and a rebuild is going to be necessary sooner than later.

I had a problem where mine was doing the same thing in late December. I was told my a trusted transmission shop that he could replace the PCS for $500 but no guarantees. Otherwise he would rebuild it for $1200 and have a 3/36 guarantee. I let it go a couple more months and ultimately bit the bullet and had a rebuild done. When he opened the trans up he discovered that the forward clutches were burnt pretty bad and I made the right decision.

Ultimately it is better to do it right the first time. After about 100k these transmissions are on borrowed time. I think my Monte lived a hard life before I got it as it has had some body work done to it and has had 4 previous owners (quite a few for a 2004 and 103k)!!!

I just got a used transmission with half the miles and slapped it in.

If this used one goes the way of my old one I'm going to be contacting TripleEdgePerformance and having him do my rebuild the right way
