Default '96 z34 trannys acting funny please help

I have a 1996 z34 and when i go to drive it it wont shift into gear. i get in, start it shift in gear (drive or reverse same problem), and nothing happens, the only way it works is if i rev it up wile in gear then it will shift into gear. after that i have no problems it dosent slip or anything. and i can park it and shift back into gear with no problem aslong as its still warm, but once it cools down i have the same problem. dose anyone know what this could be?

WTF?? Thats the damnest thing Ive heard today?? IDK if this is worth anything, but there is a lever that is controlled by a button/switch thing when you hit the brakes. The lever is a tiny little thing that will allow the gearshift to move about. All I can think of is, check out that whole "system" and hope that helps?

The transmission's probably going bad. Check your fluid, change the filter - it may help. If not... You'll need a new transmission. Mine on the 3100 went out that exact way - put it in gear, nothing. Rev up, bang into gear, and head on my way with no other problems.

Sounds like the tranny is starting to go. You may be able to drive it for a while as is, but start saving for a new transmission.

after i rev it up it shifts into gear just fine theres no bang noise, i was thinking it could be something electrical?? or maybe a vacume leak??

It's probably not electrical. Either A) You're low on fluid/fluid is old/filter is dirty or B) The transmission is going bad.
