Question Tranny slip?

Lately I've been noticing my car while at higher speeds (60 km/40 mph) or faster I could see my Rev's going up and then down for a second it happens in cruise control and a little less while pedal driving. This happens ever 5-20 mins or so.

When I drive I don't stomp on the pedal or go inconsistent paces I'm usually bang on a certain speed.

My car has had a lot of driving done in the last 4 months. I've driven from Ontario to Alberta (3000 Km/ 1800 miles) I did stop a lot to let the engine cool down + 1000 km/ 620 miles + 841 km/ 522 miles

totalling around 4841 km/ 2949 miles

Any idea's what this could be?

I know with the cruise control...rpm's always seem to vary.... No road is flat, straight, or level.... So, to me that normal... Also since the trans are fluid driven some fluxuation is expected IMO.... Unless its a huge amount of RPM fluxuation...which it sounds like it isn't.... Its Normal.. I never really paid a whole lot of Attention to my RPM gauge while driving to be perfectly honest...

Hi `Justin,
It maybe slip'in because of all the Hot Rodding you've been doing

How many miles/km's on your S.S. now ?
When is the last time your changed your transmission filter/fluids ?

How have you treated your transmission ? Easy or Hard ? Better question > How many burnouts have you done ?

The transmissions in a Monte is one of their weak point, especially `if they have been abused or used aggressively (or haven't been maintained properly)...

I've read many post of problems with the transmissions that member's stated that were abused or not serviced, but I've also noticed that member's that have loved their Monte's and treated them with respect did not seem to have any problems...

I would have had problems, because I love to do burn out's (LOL)

I hope that you get some help/idea's from our member's..Good Luck

My car just flipped 180,000 Km's I "burn out" maybe once a month if that. The only reason I noticed the RPM's is because I felt the change in my car, it's almost 500 - 1000 RPM change.

I don't think I did any tranny maintenance in a while, I didn't have the time to before I moved out west.

How would I go about treating the tranny?

I would definitely say you have the right idea about takeing care of the trans....

I simple filter and fluid change should suffice..
Generally most trans shops charge around $75.00 to do it for you...
Unless your able to do it yourself.. (which can be done easy enough)
Me personally.... I have it done professionally at least once a year on all my vehicles! Definitely a worth while investment... (Im to old to do it myself anymore..)

500-1000 RPM fluctuation on a perfectly flat road is not normal. Obviously if there is a hill or mountain to climb, it will bump up the RPM's or even down shift and really bump up the RPM's depending on the incline.

It does sound like your tranny is slipping. I would start with a fluid and filter change as mentioned above and see what that gains you.
