Question momentary "wheel slip" right after green light

I'm new to the forum and would really appreciate input on a problem I just started to have after taking off the snows:

Upon normal acceleration from a dead stop (such as when the traffic light turns green), the car begins moving normally for about 1 second, then for a very brief period the car behaves as if the front drive wheels slip, and then acceleration resumes normally. This only happens sporadically (once or twice a week). The tires are not slipping but it behaves the same as if I drove over a small ice patch. The lug nuts are tight. I'm hoping it's not some kind of <gulp> transmission slippage problem...

Thanks guys. It's an '03 SS.

May be time for a fluid and filter change in the transmission, depending on the mileage since it was last serviced. Does sound like slippage to me. Also, check to make sure it has enough fluid.

Thanks mrl. I'll check the level. (I think the dealer changed the fluid and filter last year but will double-check).

Are the tires TCS activating, or is the car just slamming you?

dunno for sure. It's only happened 3-4 times (and not at all since I first posted). Plus it's so quick that it's tough to observe much. (I don't even know if the tach jumps up.)

I am having a similar issue with my '04 Intimidator ss. Mine seems more frequent, having 106k miles, hard to believe the tranny would be slipping unless the previous owner beat the hell out of it and never changed the fluid/filter. Of course the problem doesn't occur all the time so it's difficult for myself or mechanic to observe any issue.

mrl390 was right on the money about checking the transmission fluid level. I had the dealer top it off yesterday and now there's no hesitation or slippage whatsoever!

Thanks again mrl

If the traction active light comes on it's probably a wheel hub

Could also be a break issue.. maybe they don't release all the way, one may be holding onto a wheel.
