Default Sirius satellite radio and a 2000 MC

Hi all. I have a Sirius satellite radio question...

How can I wire the signal into the stock head unit? I've seen several adapters listed on several sites, but I've seen SO much contradictory information that I'm totally confused right now. My head unit is CD changer ready (no CD changer installed, however), it has OnStar. There is no AUX button on the head unit. I do not know what the back of the unit looks like. I haven't pulled it yet. Here's a pic of the front of the HU..

I'd really prefer to use something better than an FM modulator, but have no idea what to get. ANY help at all would be appreciated...

THANKS!!!

Eric

First off, GREAT choice going with Sirius. I have it and I freakin love it.

Im not 100% sure what you are wanting to do. Are you wanting to integrate the Sirius with your headunit? I know that if you car came with XM, there is a chip that you can buy which switches it over to Sirius, but Im not sure how you would go about doing it on a stock headunit that did not come with XM. I had a double DIN opening on my Eclipse, so I just bought an aftermarker headunit and this single DIN panel for my siruis unit. Looked clean as ever, and I also used the FM modulator. the modulator really helps. I swap the Sirius unit in and out of my car and the work truck, and you can tell a difference with it for sure (truck doesnt have modulator). Id also try to email Sirius to see what they would recommend, or even go up to Best Buy and talk to the installers to see what they would do.

EDIT: Just re-read your post. The way a Sirius unit works is that it picks up the signal from the sattelite antenna, runs down to the Sirius unit, and then transmits the signal on whatever radio frequency you choose (i.e. 87.9, 88.1). The only reason you would have to pull your radio would be do wire up the FM modulator, which is very simple. you basically plug your stock antenna plug into this box, which has 1 plug that goes back into your headunit, then one more plug that runs down to your sirius headunit. Thats how I have mine wired, then I cut off the 12V plug on the power wire for the siruis headunit and hardwired it to a 12V source that was only hot in RUN and ACC modes. So long story short, you really dont have to "wire" the signal PM me if you want, Ive installed a few systems and I know a good bit about sattelite radio hookups, so Ill try and help ya out with this. The end result is worth it

Hey man, thanks for the reply.

What I was hoping to do was not have to use the FM transmitter, a cassette adapter, or the FM modulator. I was hoping I'd be able to wire it directly into an auxiliary input on the stock head unit. On newer MC's, you can wire the Sirius directly into the HU. On the older ones (mine), what I've read is it's really not possible. My head unit is not XM ready, nor does it have CD changer controls. That leaves me stuck.

I opted for a cassette adapter (I know, I know)... My area is really densely populated with FM stations. I wanted to avoid the modulator. I wired the cassette adapter in, where it's basically invisible. All you can see is maybe an inch of wire from the bezel that surrounds the stereo to the cassette opening. All other wires are fully hidden. I'm content with this setup I guess. I'd so much rather wire it direct (I can definitely hear frequency loss with the adapter), but I really don't have a choice. Or at least that's what I read. If anyone has any ideas, feel free to shoot 'em my way.

Thanks again for the response, and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
