Default PVC Valve and Fuel Filter

Went to get an oil change this morning on the Monte and while I was there I asked to have the PVC valve and fuel filter replaced. While I was waiting, the service writer told me that the PVC valve and fuel filter are not serviceable. This is from a reputable service center in my area.

Is this correct? Can the dealer do this work? He mentioned something about the fuel filter being in the gas tank, but really didnt understand why it couldnt be replaced. Thanks for any information on this!!

I'm not sure about the pcv valve on the 06+ montes, you should be able to find the information on that pretty easily.

From what I understand with the fuel filter, is that the 06+ doesn't use an in-line canister like the previous generations do. All you really have is a screen in the gas tank, which is not serviceable.

Best of luck,
-Riggs.

Weird... Both are easily replaceable. Parts cost: about $15 for PCV valve; about $25 for fuel filter. Any normal repair shop can do it for you.

Oooh... Just saw biggriggs post. Newer models are apparently quite different than my '02. Sorry for the misinformation.

Thanks for the replies guys! I looked though the owners manual and it mentions nothing about the PCV valve in the maintenance section at all. In fact, the is no mention of it in the table of contents.

Thanks again!

Yeah, I had a post written out on how easy/cheap they are to change on the '00-'05s, then double checked your car domain.
Usually a good idea to post the year and trim level of your car, just to clear up any confusion for tech questions.

Also, $15 for a pcv and $25 for a fuel filter for an 02 SS? I really hope that was for the full job. They take about 2min and 15min to replace respectively, and cost about $3/$7 for the parts respectively.

I just had my 2004 Monte Carlo worked on because of a rough idle at stops; it ran fine otherwise. They replaced something related to a vacuum (two little black rubber things - I know I'm a girl and don't know the terms). Anyway it worked for a day and now its back to the rough idling. I am taking it in tomorrow; any suggestions on what else they can check?

i have a in line fuel filter like the rest of the models. it is the 7th gen i have it is the lt model. it has a replaceable model fuel filter as well as having pcv valve is also replaceable. but the pcv valve does not needing to be replaced till you hit 90k miles on it. with the fuel filter it is located by the back axel.right beside the fuel tank. just like the 2000 to 2005 models.
