Default Problem with 1998 Monte Carlo (tranny i think)

Hey,

Sorry but i wasn't sure where should i post this thread.
I got a problem with my 1998 3.1l Monte Carlo and it seems that nobody knows what's going on with it. It happened about 3 weeks ago. I was driving at the speed of 55+ and my car stalled out and my service engine light turned on. Since then, it seems like my car either stalls out or it slips gears. It happens all the time, basically like every 0.5 mile. When I step on a gas pedal a little harder, my RPMs will go up to 7000RPM and my engine will roar like crazy, but the car won't even move. It happens all the time, when i drive or when I stop at the red light or stop signs. I went to Autozone, they told me it's my EGR VALVE. So I went to the junk yard, i pulled out a good EGR Valves and the light turned off but my car still does it. It can drive like really slow but if i go over 35miles per hour or like 2500RPM, it happens again, i step on gas, RPMs go up but the car slows down. What could be wrong with it? Transmission? Is it time to look for a new car? Thanks.
