Please help...(Leaking Power Steering fluid...)
So my 95' z34 has been leaking power steering fluid at an insane rate. I took it in to see where it was leaking from and they said it was the "high pressure line"
I then asked what it would cost..they said they charge $30 an hour, and it would take 1-5 hours.
Ok...I understand that they can't give me a set amount of minutes it will take...but 1-5 hours!? Thats the difference between $30 and $150.
Its also frustrating because they are pretty much the best mechanic you can find around here.
So here's what I want to know...any idea around how long it would take to replace the part? I've heard 1hr...wich would be amazing lol
Thanks for the help.

It should take about 1-2 hours depending on whether there are other problems related to the leak or not. In my experience, once a high pressure hose goes bad the pump follows close behind due to old seals/bearings handling the increase pressures from the new hose. You should have the mechanic check the condition of the pump/pulley bearing and the return hose, the condition of the belt and the condition, color and smell of the power steering fluid just to be on the safe side. It's better to pay a little more and be safe than to wind up stranded far from home.
