The best chip out there currently is the sweet chili doritos!! Opps, sorry we are talking cars..... in that case as already mentioned get a tuned pcm from a vendor or have it dyno tuned. Gains will still be minimal though unless more work is done to it. The 3400 is not very mod friendly. Just PLEASE eat your chips and tune your car!!

I belive Milzy Motorsports does 3400 tuning, or you could ask around locally or find someone with HP Tuners to help you out.
Thanks for the advice! I'm glad that I came to the forum first before wasting my money. 35 hp and 5 mpg gains seemed too good to be true for a $70 chip lol

They are usually just a resistor that you put in line of your air intake temperature sensor, it will fool the engine into thinking the car is getting colder air than it really is, so the car's natural response is too either dump more fuel at it (to try to get more power) or to take fuel away (to increase MPG).

They are pretty crappy things for the engine, like everyone else said, don't bother.

There are a few mods for a 3400. Perhaps this thread can help:
https://montecarloforum.com/forum/fw...p-power-46071/

As for tuning, the 3400 PCM has no issues getting a tune. Admittedly tuning and modding the 3400 is more common for the nbody guys, but there are things that can be done on the Monte. If you are not looking for a full tune, I do offer some adjustment services in our classifieds:

I have dual exhaust and I recently installed a Magnaflow high-flow cat to eliminate the u-bend. That is the only thing I have done as far as performance upgrades. I am thinking either a PCM tune or Cold Air Intake for my next performance upgrade. As of now, I am converting my stock, exterior lights to LED. I bought and installed LED tail lights, backup lights, and the license plate light. Next is front LED headlights and turn signals. I am considering buying new tinted Anzo headlight assemblies that have the clear headlight lense that are dark inside. I think that they will match my tail lights and make my car look better. So that is where my money is going currently lol

I'd consider the CAI or at least gutting the air box as the next mod and picking up some L67 coils and a PCM Tune at minimum.

Tell me more about the L67 coils. How much of a difference in performance would they make? Where do I find them at?

Everything I can provide about the L67 coils is listed in the 3400 mods for cheap power link that I provided earlier in this thread. That thread has a lot of information about some of the basic mods for the 3400.

I just got a performance chip for my monte carlo form a company called powertune on amazon. I was not expecting much when I bought it and it's just ok, no crazy increase in HP but it does give it more pep. If you want a little more kick then I'd recommend it but don't expect to gain a ton of hp. The company also put together reviews on their site from customers. Some just talking about it and some doing 0-60 tests with and without it. powertune performance chip review
