6th Gen ('00-'05): PCM giving codes that are not for my 02 Monte SS
Hi MCF!
I know I have asked this before. You must Excuse me if my frustrations are showing. I am looking for work and going on interviews and finding myself more concerned with how my car is running that how i will do in front of my potential new boss!!!
I am now getting 3 trouble codes. P0122, for the TPS which I replaced not long before the TB cleaning. That code wenty bye bye after the replacement. P0366, Camshaft position sensor! I have ordered that sensor and will have it tomorrow. But this is the problem with this code :366 is a cam sensor code but all the reading I've done says this code is for Cadillacs with the 3800 motor.
So I look in my Haynes repair manual, Chevrolet Lumina, Monte Carlo and Impala (FWD) 1995 -2005. In the trouble codes section of Chapter 6, there are no PO360anything codes of any of the cars it refers to. The code for the Camshaft Sensor System is PO341. Why would my PCM give me a Cadillac code? Is my car a Cadillac in disguise?
Also, the third code P0766: TCC sensor, is for V8 Cadillac w/4t60 as well, again not even on the code list for our cars. The 2 codes listed for that sensor P0741, Torque Converter Clutch system stuck open and PO742 stuck closed. Neither of these are or have ever come up. I need feedback whether you have experience with this or not, before I go to Mr. expensive GM dealer for a new computer or a new programing of my PCM. All opinions on this matter will be welcomed.
You can see where my Frustrations are coming from!!! I really need more than my gut feelings on this one!
Thanks Much.

Ok first off we need more back ground info on your vehicle. year make model engine mods.
From your profile i saw its a 2002 MC. Im assuming its the 3800. when i open a stock PCM/bin file for it, the P0366 is not in the file as a trouble code. what type of code scanner are you using?
and No. GM is wrong that any code can show up on any vehicle. every pcm has a complete list of codes but many of them are inactive and can not be triggered no matter what happens.

Ok, 02 Monte Carlo SS 3800 normally aspirated with no modes Yet. Been working out the Bugs in the PCM. since I got it. 169700 miles as of Today.
I've replaced, MAP, MAS, IAC, TPS, FPR, PLUGS, AIR FILTER and Belt. You and I both know that the GM Guy is full of Dino Burgers, it was the guy at the desk not a Real Mechanic. I think he makes appointments very well!!! But if I want to get my PCM done right, I have to take it there.
I'm with you. I've own many a car in my day. Between my Mom, girlfriends, kids, x-wife and my own, I think I've put Tool to about 60 cars in my life. And that dosent include the ones I worked on when I was a paid mechanic back in the 80s. I know each model has its own codes. You can put a CADILLAC OBD II PCM in your car but it still has to be programed for your car. Just like you can plug any printer to your desktop but until you put the right program in it, it won't work right if it works at all.
Anyway, I wanted to get a the opinion of others befor I go back to Chevy any spill my Machanics Brain all over his desk and embarrass him in front of all his other customers. Hee Hee Hee! B-)
