Passlock? BCM? Other?
Hello,
I've browsed through a lot of the passlock/passkey threads and can't figure out if that's what I'm dealing with or not. It's a 97 Monte Carlo LS, 2 weeks ago the Air Bag light came on, the next day the ABS light came on, and later that day the Brake light on the dash illuminated. A couple days later it didn't want to start and some of the other dash lights were flashing and clicking (not just the security, actually mostly the oil lights). Later that night it started up no problem.
Well tonight it stranded me. It would start but only run for a couple seconds. Tried cleaning the key (has the chip) and using the spare to no luck. When I was fussing around I noticed the hazard lights peg was coming loose so I popped it on and noticed when the hazards were flashing, some of the dash lights would faintly light up between blinks and there was a buzzing noise.
Does this sound like a security/passlock issue or a computer issue like the BCM or just a faulty wire somewhere?
Also around the same time these lights have started to come on, the tach has intermittently worked, but I don't know if that's related.
Any insight appreciated.
thanks,
Joe

i did try the relearn procedure and had no luck tonight. The lights did buzz and flash while the key was on the 'off" position in the steps, and some remained on while the key was "on" but no buzzing. Don't know if this helps determine anything, but noticed when I applied the brake pedal a couple of the dash warning lights would faintly come on.
I'll try to get some sleep and try again in the morning.

It ended being the passkey/passlock security...had a new ignition with new key installed. What made it such a tricky case to begin with, is someone had put after market security on it at some point and that prevented us from getting codes at first with the scanner. The after market security wires were removed as well.
as a side note - all the warning lights (brake, abs) have been off since the new ignition was installed. I'm guessing the dash lights must have been part of the symptoms, except the air bag light stayed on.
