Default Paranoia? Help appreciated!

Hey everyone I’m new to the the Monte community!

I got a really good deal on a 2005 Supercharged SS with 120000 miles on it and I am sorta trying to restore it the best I can on a budget lol. Growing up these cars were everywhere and I always wanted one since I started driving at 16 I’m 20 and now I got one of my dream cars and just wanna keep it nice and make it better.

But anyways I think I’m hearing almost like a grinding sound from the supercharger. Now I know about the coupler and I pulled the belt and checked for play and there wasn’t really any at all. I will admit the sound is fairly faint but enough to draw attention of a weary owner.

It does sorta sound like it is maybe coming from the fuel rail behind the supercharger or off to the driver side of it but I can’t really tell and I did the old screwdriver to the ear as a stethoscope trick and nothing jumped out at me. I was just wondering if anyone could ease my mind with some knowledge so I hopefully can stop worrying so much, thanks!

Noises are very hard without hearing them in person. If you're really worried, I'd just pull it and do a full inspection. It's just a couple gaskets, some sealant, and fresh oil.

When checking for coupler play, I like to grab the rotors by hand so they can't move and rock the pulley back and forth to see if theres any slop. Could be just starting to wear so its not too obvious.

How is the oil? Ive seen noise from snout bearings before because the snout seal leaked and had been run bone dry for many miles.

If youre saying it sounds like its back by the fuel rail- the only possibilities inside are the case bearings (very rare to have fail) or some junk in the supercharger - a chunk of coating coming off or something.

Taking it off makes checking all of that stuff 100x easier though.

Might not even be the SC pulley. Could loosen both belts, just check all pulleys by hand.
