Default NO Transmition overdrive

HI, Guy's I picked up a 2001 Monte Carlo SS witha 3800 engine. After his 2001 Monte got totaled sitting on the side of the road it was ices out he's ok. Picked up this one and it has no overdrive the oil is clean dose not smell burned. Works fine in all the other gears.Any ideals on what could be wrong??

On the head lights the high beam light onthe dash is on but head lights are on low beam. Switch lights to low beam no light on dash then head kights are on high beam. The fog lights do not work all the time

Thank You

the 4t65e are a finiky trans but my experence with mine is the simplest things make a big difference. i just changed mine again recently i very rarly notice the shifts. but most do but i wil also do a tune up and change the air filter. just to make sure there will be a fresh start for your monty to start out with. to get what things might pop up out of the way

Hi, Monte07, Would you not see a change in engine RPM when it should shift into overdrive? Now the engine RPM is about 2700-3000 at 65 MPH. Will have to see what the weather is this week end in central MN who knows what it will today there is chance of snow and 25 MPH wind or it could be 50deg. onthe week end what fun in MN weather.
Thank You
Rod

Hi, Monte07, I got the transmition oil and filter changed this weekend and did not seem to be a change in shifting into overdrive. What should the engine RPM be when going 65 MPH mine is at 2950 to 3000 RPM. What should the engine RPM be when it is in overdrive. Still working on the headlights high beam dash light is on but lights are on low beam, when dash light is out lights are on high beam and fog lights are on then. I have checked some of the grounds but notall off them yet. On the engine above the oil pam drain plug on the block there is a sender facing down wheat sender is that one looks oil dripping off it?

Thank You

At highway speeds you should be around 2k when in overdrive - if I keep the car out of OD on the highway I stay around 3k. So you're not going into overdrive.

More than likely the splines are worn off your 4th gear shaft. There is a clutch hub inside this trans for 4th gear and has a long hollow shaft with splines on one end, and lugs on the other end for 4th clutches to key into. The splines on the small end will turn razor sharp over time and eventually wear off.

2003 and up models had the splines heat treated so they wouldn't wear off. Yours is probably worn off. See picture below from Triple Edge Performance. The bad side is you need to tear the tranny down to change it.

Default No Overdrive

Hi Guy's Had a friend out the car on his scaner and came up with no 4th gear solenoid. The 2nd and 3th solenoid were working. Is there a 4th gear solenoid for overdrive. his scaner show no 4th gear. ? Fluid and filter made no change. Rod in MN
