New member need help! Rewiring electrical fans
Hello everyone I am new to this forum and had my 95 MC Z34 for about 2 years, I need help if anybody can, I want to rewire my electrical fans with a on/off switch since my fans won't turn on by themselves anymore, I used the tech notes on w-body.com but since then I have been getting my check engine light, if I take off the ground wire from the fan relay the CEL goes off but once I hook it back up it turns on again. Please help anybody.
ummm were the fans working before you tried what you saw on Wbody? personally touching the factory wiring was a mistake. when i added a manuel turn on switch to my fans, i just got a relay and then pumped the juice right into the power wire of the fan.
why do you want a constant on for the fans? if the fans aren turning on, i would get that fixed. if you run the fans too long, you will over cool the engine. and cause the rings to overly wear. these can be very tempromental engines. do things right and fix the prob... dont bypass it. if you want a manuel turn on for the track, that is diff but dont use them 100% for daily driving or a new engine will be in your near future.

Thanks for the help, yes the fans were turning on before they died, what can be the problem if you might know, I would think it is the temp sensor but I don't know,
how hard is it to repair, I like to do my own work since most shops are afraid to touch my 3.4 DOHC. Both fans work when I grounded them but I only have one turned on so hopefully that doesn't affect my engine. Please help I hate seeing my CEL turned on. Pictures would also be helpful. I want to keep this car in top shape, 112k mi and still purrs. I keep up with all maintenance since I have read that they are very critical when it comes to maintenance. Please I love this car and don't want to see it go.

try going to autozone and getting the codes scaned. normally they can only scan obd2 but i have heard somepeople that had yoru year scaned there. but get the engine like checked. i would leave the fans hooked up in the stock configuration. if you temp gauge on your instrument cluster works, then your coolent temp sensor is fine. but find the source for the fans not working. trace the grounds on the fans then... it could be they are corroded.
with a car as old as ours, i would clean any ground you can find and put dielectic greese on them. this too will help you in the long run. and make sure the coolent is flushed and clean. also check all the vaccum hoses for dry rott. other then that.... i cant think of any basic maintenance items to check for. well good luck. let us know what the engine light is telling you.

Yeah my temp gauge work, damn I was about to replace my temp sensor, good thing I didn't do it, I will try to clean the grounds and add some of that grease you mentioned, I have some left over from my spark plug installation last month. I heard something about a fan switch, by any chance do you know where it can be located, or any other thing related to this, I am going to clean everything that directs me to the fans. anything related to this situation would be appreciatd.
thanks again for the help. the CEL only turns on when I ground the relay to turn on my fans when I turn on the car, so I know that it is what is causing it since it flashes on and off when it detects it, if I disconnect the wire it will turn off but the temp gauge will start indicating that it is getting hotter.
