need info about an '00 SS trans
so walking around the neighborhood I noticed one of the nicest 6th gen monte's around laying dead in it's driveway. finally stopped in and asked about it, supposedly it's got a dead trans... no more info than that. the car is an '00 SS, N/A 3.8, unknown miles but knowing the car likely under 150k, 1 owner, black with a charcoal cloth (?) interior.
anyway, I can probably get the car cheap, and I want to know if the 6th gen SS cars have any common issues that could be mistaken as a totally dead trans. also is it worth a full trans rebuild?

Without knowing more about what the trans is doing its hard to say. Could just by solenoids but it could also be a convertor or broker band and the list goes on. If you can get it cheap and have time and room to remove the trans yourself I say go for it as you will male money flipping it I'm sure.
I would contact dave at triple edge performance for a rebuilt trans, he is by far the best 4t65 trans builder!

I would truthfully check around for a junk yard trans. If you can get the car super cheap, drop a $300 used trans in, you'll be rocking for under $1000
Then we can build that thing up real good

thanks for the info guys, the way I figure if I get the car for what I want to pay I could drop it at a trans shop and have it rebuilt and be on the road for under 3 grand... just wanted to see if there is any other common flaws that could be a simpler issue.
a reman or used trans is definitely another option, with my dad's help I've got access to the tools & knowledge to swap a trans in the driveway if I wanted. but that mostly depends on how horrible the job is, lol. have any of you guys installed a trans yourselves, how bad was it to do? last FWD trans my dad did was for his '97 voyager minivan and it was a huge PITA.

I've had my trans out 4 or 5 times now lol. It's not too bad with good tools. You will have to have a engine support bracket or use 4x4 lumber for the support and once engine is supported drop the sub frame and disconnect everything else. Takes me about 3hrs to get mine out and that's having to fight around turbo piping which you don't have
