Default ls4 in a 200 monte carlo?

Hi all I'm new here and my wife has a 200 monte carlo ls. I seen that the 06/07 MCSS's have an ls4 v8 what would it take to put one in a 2000? Alot of fab work? Or simple bolt in deal?

thats a 1800 year old car =p jk

pretty sure itd be more than just bolt in, youd need a different transmission, also different engine mounts, because the engine is going to be bigger

Alot of fab work? Or simple bolt in deal?
This has been discussed before, and there was some good info thrown out there-try seeing what the search brings up too.

IMO its right in between the two above. I wouldn't call any engine swap a 'simple bolt in', even dropping an L67 (supercharged 3800) in place of an L36 (NA 3800) requires some minor rewiring.

On the other hand, I wouldn't call it 'a lot of fab work' either- in terms of the actual body of the car, the 06/07 isn't that different from the 2000. So I would imagine it would just be a matter of getting the entire powertrain on the cradle including axles, pcm, tcm, and all underhood wiring and bolting it all up to your car. The thing I don't know is about communication lines between the underhood wiring and stuff in the dash (ie instrument cluster, BCM, obd port, etc)- I don't know if thats just a matter of some rewiring or if you have to convert some of the interior stuff too to go with a newer style of computer communication. I've heard it has been done by two different people, but I've never seen anybody actually post up progress pics or exactly what they had to do to make it work.

IMO, it would be easier and cheaper to swap in an L67. You'd have less horsepower, but its easy to make up with simple bolt on mods. Plus, thats a swap that has been done plenty of times in your exact body (heck, the SS's came with the L36 which is like 95% the same engine).

I recall one guy who had done this earlier posted here. He had to obtain a salvaged instrument cluster to do it, so I'm sure behind the dash wiring will have to be altered some. He said he finished it up, but I can't remember the guys handle.

Thanks for the replys all. Sorry about the typo I tried to go back and change it but couldn't find the edit part LOL.

That's the info I was looking for though. I wondered if it would physically bolt up and in everything motor and trans. without welding or beating. I kinda figured Id need the engine wiring and sensors, and maybe the dash setup. Her 3.4 runs good and has some miles on it, I just seen the newer ones had v8's and thought it be pretty cool if sometime later hers goes down try and find a v8 monte and swap everything over.
