Looking to install aftermarket remote starter

RE: Looking to install aftermarket remote starter
Ive never installed one before nor never done half the things i do but a little common sense and reading goes a long way. Is there a good web site where I can find a tutorial on this?
When you buy them- the instructions generally walk you through every step of what wire goes where, and what to test for when you're looking for wires to connect to.
Thats not true for all of them- I've installed units for people that are the cheapy $50 ones from the internet, and cheap local stores- and some of those semi-English instructions are terrible at best. As long as you buy a name brand piece- the instructions will tell you 99% of what you need to know.
The only really important thing I always stress to people I've trained- is do not ever cut any wires unless it is a requirement (generally only for the security wires). You should not be cutting 99% of the wires that you're tapping into. Learn how to 'thread the needle', and strip only the coating off the wires you want to tap- and you'll make your life much easier.

I heard that Viper was the best remote starter. It has the alarm that tells you if your car alarm is going off. If he puts that on a 2004-2005 monte, will he need anything extra?
I'm not crazy about the 2 way pager units. I have one on my impala, and despite their claims of crazy range- the range ALWAYS seems to be a good deal shorter than with a normal remote. I'm not sure what the deal is- but I've installed a lot of both units, and the range always seems reduced w/ the 2 ways.
You will also need the bypass for the passkey system. Your local best buy/ circuit city or online should also have a DEI bypass that will work for your car.

If and only IF your car is new enough to support the long distance fobs already, it will only cost you the price of 2 new fobs and the time for the dealership to put the software on. ~100$
However if the car isn't new enough for it, then you will have to look into an aftermarket.

There's a sticker in your trunk, and it has codes on it. I forget the exact code you are looking for to know because my car didn't have it when i was asking a dealership about it.
They should be able to tell you over the phone... I think it is like AP8 or something.
