'03 SS - looking for best remote starter...
Just had my first tune-up. Mechanic tells me to NOT get the remote starter in this car (03 SS no remote starter when bought)....he said that somewhere down the road I'll have a problem with it.
I really want toinstall the remote; I always had one on my cars. No garage, so it's a big plus to have one.
What's the general opinion on aftermarket remotes? Can anybody recommend ones that have been trouble-free? Or tell me which ones to avoid?
Thanks!

I would have to say if possible find one that can be installed with a plug and play harness. That way if there is any problems, just unplug it andno more problems. I had installed one on my Beretta (I owned that from 00-04) and it had a problem within a few months, but it had a warranty and was replaced for free. The second one never had any problems at all, and I actually got a remote trunk opener to install with it. Did the guy at the dealership detail any particular problems that he saw?

He did mention an ignition switch, or something with the ignition, that would be costly down the road if there was a problem. He was kinda vague about it, but acted very sure about GM cars not doing well with aftermarket starters. I'm still gonna try to do it, but want to minimize the chances of problems. Plug and play is a good idea.
Any other opinions? Thanks!

never buy a crimestoppers unit, they're garbage!
lol..there's my 2 cents...they're service stinks...i'm in the aftermaket sales business and when a company can't call you back for more than a week because they said they were busy is not good customer service...especially when they tell you they have the best customer service, then they sell you the unit they say will work...then about 2 weeks later they say it wont ...grr!!!!! idiots!!

I had a really nice setup on my 4X4 (traded for the SS)... it was made by Compustar, had the pager with it, really cool screen that showed you what was running, etc.
I could point it at the parkade when I was leaving my job at the hospital, even if the truck was a couple floors above me. The pager would go offonce itgot the signal back from the truck that it started. That way I knew that it was running before I even got on the elevator...nice!
Very cool; I think it ran somewhere in the 200+ range. I don't mind paying as long as I'm paying for something of quality.
I know I'll need the ignition bypass. I just want to make sure that the aftermarket package won't cause problems down the road!

I installed a Viper 791xalarm - I don't recommend doing it yourself, it is worth having an installer professionally do it at Best Buy or other place. Remote Start, Alarm, Trunk release, motion sensors. I have no more problems with worrying about theft and the Remote start is great in the winter.
