on my 3400 in my alero i had CAI that was in the fender and i HATED it. cleaning the filter took too long. so i ended up changing it to WAI so it was easier to clean and check.
on my monte i have SLP intake with Ram air connection for the hood and i love it. it sounds awesome!

What is a WAI? I've never heard that term before. I've heard of short RAM and CAI, but WAI is a new one by me.
But yes, accessing the filter can be a chore, but at the same time, how many times a year do you need to clean it? This is defintely one of those things you need to take into consideration when deciding on an intake though, good point!

WAI warm air intake. having the filter right in the engine bay like this pic. it was easier to maintain. i cleaned the filter like twice a year but i cant see it and dont know if its dirty or what not. i just got sick of cleaning it. so i did this to make my job easier

That's pretty much what I have on mine, as like you I didn't want to deal with the annoyance of cleaning, so I went with a short RAM and it's worked out just fine for me. I will post a pic in my album and then post a link to it here. I just went with the K&N Aircharger model. I like it. It makes a really neat sound when i first start the car, a very noticeable sucking sound, it's great. lol.

I have a short ram with a heat shield over the K&N filter (smaller filter than the 9" cone) that works and sounds OK. It has that air sucking sounds to it when you first start the car, and throaty sound when you get on it...
I want to build a box close in looks to the trasher and add that to the short ram, but change the filter to the 9" cone..
