I agree, Wiz, the 3.4's are A LOT harder to work on than the 3.8's are. I just really think that $800 is a fair price but if you can get a mechanic to work on it on the side, like I did, it will be a lot cheaper The mechanic is a friend of mine, so thankfully, he was able to get me some discounts on parts too I cannot say how much parts are for the 3.4L DOHC motors. Here is a list of the repairs recently made to my Monte:
Intake Gasket Set (Lowers): $47.50
Intake Gasket Set (Upper): $39.99
Water Pump: $39.99
Thermostat: $13.48
Universal Coolant: $11.50
RTV: $4.92

They put the upgraded thicker delco set in there. Has the reinforcements on `em but the fel-pros were`nt available at the time the engine gaskets went. I`m just gonna keep an eye on them and if it starts to go out I`ll get the fel-pros for sure.
