Default 3800 intake manifold gasket replacement

I'm probably either going to do it myself or have someone else do it but I was wanting to know the part number of the lower gasket set that you guys recommend. I've heard some mention of the Felpro Problem solver gasket. I'm also going to replace the valve cover gaskets. Felpro on those also? Is there anything else that needs to be replaced when this repair is done? How hard of a job is this for a do it yourselfer and what would a shop charge to do it? This is on my 2004 Dale Jr. Thanks.

I'd do it myself personally. I had a quote from 3 shops in town and each of them ranged it around $500 without gaskets. The ones I got came with step by step directions. Either way best of luck to ya..

I suggest buying your gaskets from ZZPerformance.com. If you bring your car to a shop, expect to pay at least $200-$300 in just labor. It's not even that hard to do. If you can turn a ratchet and remember how to put it back together (or buy a Haynes manual) you can do it yourself. I didn't even need my Haynes manual for my motor, and I tore it down to the shortblock and built it back up. And this 3800 is the first motor I've actually torn apart like that.

Thanks guys. I could do the job because I've been working on cars most of my life. I also have the factory service manual for the car. The problem is working on it where it is warm, dry, and out of the weather. Its been way to cold and windy for me to even contemplate doing it outside.

I know the feeling. I've been putting my 3800 back together in cold *** windy weather, but I'm ready to get her running, so to hell with the weather. If you have any questions, just ask them, I'm very familiar with the top end of an L67.

I probably will do it myself, but I'm going to wait a couple of months when it gets warm. I don't think its at the critical stage yet and I'm not even sure its the intake leaking. I do know that the valve cover gaskets are leaking because they are leaking down the sides by the exhaust manifolds. When I changed the oil I should have taken a sample and sent it out to get tested to see if I'm getting antifreeze in my oil.

I decided to let the shop that does all that kind of stuff for me do it because I didn't feel like doing it and the weather just has not been cooperating. I called today to check on how things were going and he told me that I caught the leak just in time as the gasket around the middle ports were starting to seperate. I should get it back tomorrow after the suspension guy checks it out.
