I wanna do a tune but..how?
I wanna buy a tuner to maximize performance out of my 2004 dale jr s/c. I only have mod of a cold air intake, and now i wanna tune the thing to make it push as much as possible.
Can i just buy a tuner from my speed shop for my specific car and plug it and make the changes....or do i got to replace anything else as well?
Also was is best tuner for the buck.
Thanks

The three most obvious options you have right now are:
1) overkill tune (order in mail) is the cheapest route and there's many satisfied members here with that tune.
2) Diablo tuner, some (hardly a few members here) have it. Most perfure it over overkill but it is more expensive that option 1
3) dyno tune at you're local speed shop, those are custom tunes made exactly to your car and are the best option but it can be costly, however usually if the tuner is knowable-able of his work then you are in the best position possible.

I have a hypertech programmer I am trying to sell if your interested it's the plug and play method. Second option is to buy a mail order tune from overkill or other vendors that sell tunes
I agree that you should wait until you get a few more mods before you worry about a tune. A cai isn't going to do much until you throw on a few more go fast parts. Good tuning software for our cars to look for are ones such as HPTuners or a DHP Powertuner.

When going to tune, rule #1, get all your mods in first.
Those "hand held" tuners are limited in what they can do. They are made to be easy to use without much, if any tuning knowledge (they are settings deemed safe and average).
If you are really wanting a tune, as mentioned there are many mail order companies that know these cars and can do a lot more for you.
If you are serious about wanting to self tune, HP Tuners or a used DHP PowrTuner is the way to go. But there is a LOT to learn. I have a DHP and I'm still learning a lot to try and dial my ride in better.

DHP PT's are dirt cheap now in the used market if you have any interest in learning how to tune. It certainly isn't for everybody- there is a massive learning curve to understand everything, but it is a very powerful tool for those who are patient enough to learn how.
