Default hot cranking difficulty

stats
1986 monte ss
350 crate motor
carbureted

problem
early in the morning, the car cranks up at turn key no problems at all.
i turn it off and turn it back on, start no problem.
i turn it off and leave it off from 5minutes-8hours and when i try turning it on within any of that time frame, it literally takes 5-10 seconds to turn over.
if i drive and leave it off for more than 8 hours, it cranks up first time.

so im wondering could this more than likely be distributor problem because i dont feel its the starter, battery, alternator, or carb.
i would appreciate some inputs on this special problem of mine

i would check all the conections leading to the battery to the starter and it also sounds like the starter silinoid. but first thing is first is check the battery to make sure it is giving out the corect cranking amps and voltege. remember you might have voltage and low amps. if the battery is ok it might be two things starter silinoid or the coil that gives the voltage for the distributer. also i forgot to ask when was the last time did you do a tune up as in new plugs and wires?

did you find out what it was? was it the coil or was it the starter. the reason why i mentioned the starter it could last forever or could be new and go bad. did you find out what it was i am just wondering if you did find out what it was i am glad it is running great
