Default Hi-flow fuel pump

Ok, so I've found myself in an odd place. I can work on my engine no problem, but I don't know how to wire in my new fuel pump, lol. I have the hi-flow pump from ZZP (venturi). Any advice?

urrr it doesn't have the same type of connector or number of pins? any pics of the two or info from the new pump? is your setup set for a two speed pump? I know in the pcm settings on my 98 pcm i have mine set for single as i dont thing the DOHC nor my car had the dual speed.

Rather then write a long, drawn out post I'll point you to an article instead:

Electric Fuel Pump: How to Do It Right

This is the same method I use and would recommend it to anyone.

Sorry that I was vague with my post (I was on my phone posting this). I don't have any pics yet because I haven't gotten into the tank yet, but the pump that I have is the ZZP350 in tank pump. It's on their website under fueling. I'm just a little nervous about wiring it up right.

03SSLE, I took a look at your article, and while it does have useful info, it's not exactly what I'm looking for. Basically what I need to know is what wire goes to what wire from the pump to my Monte's wiring.

The pump itself is pretty straight forward. Red = Positive & Black = Negative.

A schematic for a '98 Monte shows a GREY wire coming off pin 30 of the fuel pump relay powering the pump. This would be the wire you would trace to the pump connector and attach the RED wire of the pump to. The negative wire grounds near the tank and should be fairly easy to trace back to the pump connector. The BLACK wire of the pump gets connected to it.

However...

There is a note on the ZZP site saying they recommend the installation of a new fuel pump circuit. The reason being that the pump has a higher amperage draw then the OE pump and the factory wiring may not be able to handle the extra demand. Just something to think about as you plan your line of attack. If you do decide to retain the OE wiring you'll need to replace the fuse with one that can tolerate the additional amperage draw through it...then hope the wiring doesn't get too hot to cause a problem. If you decide to wire in your own circuit the previous link I posted is an excellent guide.

Good luck!

Not sure if what I have to say will apply to the '98s but when I put that pump in my 2002 I had to modify the canister quite a bit for it to fit. Make sure you have a Dremel

Wiring was easy on it just a black an red wire coming off it.

I put it in with a fuel pump rewire and am very happy with it.

No dremel necessary for this job in my case, the pump was a direct drop in replacement. Granted I don't have venturi.

Okay, thanks for the advice everyone. I might look into a rewire while I'm at it.

a fuel pump rewire is a must if upgrading the fuel pump, if you dont upgrade the wiring then the pump dont work to its full potential because it lacks voltage. i personally like racetronix pumps and there rewires. do not use a zzp fuel pump rewire there junk i dont recommend caspers rewire either...
