lately my car has been making a whining noise almost like a supercharger would make but i can obviously tell that my car is not supercharged. the sound stopped for the most part over the winter but now that its summer its started doing it again. i cant tell if its the engine or the transmission. can anyone shed some light on this situation as to what it might be?

 

Power steering pump im sure.

 

x2 i'd start by checking your power steering fluid

first i will check the belt some times you will get a whine from that as well some times a squeel but i will go with that first. second check the level of the power steering fluid if it is fine and still makes the sound it is the pump. the reson why i said check the belt and fluid level it is the cheapest thing to do first then. you will know it is the pump the power steering pump is much more than a belt and fluid for it. i agree the sound that you are hearing is from the pump but i was just saying from imo to check the other two first to try to save a little money
