Default Comparing my stock heads and cams on my 86 ss to a new 350 33hp 380 torque from summi

Can someone tell me the size -lift and duration of the stock cams and cylinder heads in a 86 monte ss. I am looking at a new 350 chevy motor with 330hp and 380 torque from summit. I wanted to compare the two but I don't know how

These are the parts used in this engine. I don't know engines I am learning as I go.
4 bolt main 1 piece rear main seal blocks.
Modular cast iron crankshafts
Powdered metal cylinder connecting rods
Dished cast aluminum pistons
Camshafts are hydronic flat tappet with .435 in. Intake lift and .460 in exhaust lift with duration at .050 in. Intake is 212 and 222 for exhaust with a 112.5 love centerline.
Standard morse link timing chains are installed. Cylinder heads are vortec cast iron style with 64 cc chambers 170cc intake runners with 1.94 in.itake valves and 1.50in exhaust valves. Stamped steel self aligning rocker arms.aluminum dual plane egr capability vortec style intske manifold with Holley 600cfm vacuum secondary with electric choke.
Also it comes with spark plugs hei distributors. Cast iron long style water pumps with standard v belt rotation threaded for 1979-89 power steering pump bracket
Standard 8 inch balance rand 12,3/4 flex plates along with chrome air cleaner and aluminum t stat housing with driver side hose connection and a 180 degree t stat

This is the whole engine I want to put in my ss. Also what is the difference between this one and the same one but the other one is a turn key

Thanks and sorry for the long write

You are comparing apples to oranges with the engines. Your stock motor does not compare to the summit motor at all. You probably have 180 hp and 225 ft lbs of torque with your stock motor. The cam in the 305 won't be anything like the 350 and neither will the heads as the cylinders are smaller, so the valves will be smaller as there is not as much fuel and exhaust to be pushed through the motor's cylinders. Here are the specs

Cylinders alignment: V 8

Displacement: 5001 cm3 / 305.2 cui

Bore: 94.89 mm / 3.736 in

Stroke: 88.39 mm / 3.48 in

Compression ratio: 9.5 : 1

Horsepower net: 134.5 kW / 183 PS / 180 hp (SAE net)/ 4800 rpm

Torque net:305 Nm / 225 ft-lb / 3200 rpm

top speed: 204 km/h (127 mph) (theoretical)

accelerations: 0- 60 mph 8.4 s; 0- 100 km/h 8.9 s (a-c simulation); 1/4 mile drag time (402 m) 16.4 s (a-c simulation)

A modified 350 with heads (shave 10 thousand off of the heads) , cam, intake, carb, larger pistons and headers will destroy the stock 305 your ss came with. You can't really compare the 2 motors as they are not the same. You can mod the 305 but it's honestly not worth your time doing it, unless you are just looking for some mild mods. There are so many aftermarket parts for the 350 at a cheaper price that is the way to go. Your car comes with the turbohydramatic transmission and 3.73 gears which is good enough to start out with, those gears are good for street and not bad for strip. If you are going to just drag race the car look into 4.11's or better, but if you plan on cruising in the car stay with the 3.73's as the motor won't rev as high and you will still get fairly ok gas mileage, but when you hit the throttle it will move.

All the parts you listed are upgrades from the stock motor you have, so they will all be beneficial pending what your goal is.

Again honestly if you are just looking for a daily driver that you can pounce on periodically serious consider just buying a 350 from a wrecker and putting a cam, intake, headers, and new pistons and rings, if you can find a set of dart 202 heads, they are a great upgrade, but when you start buying performance heads they get expensive quickly as you honestly get what you pay for. A lot of performance shops will be able to give you a list of what parts will work best if you go in and speak with them as they will have a better understanding when you can explain to them exactly what you want the car to do for your needs.

Here's a link to a classified ad from a member with a set of heads, intake, carb and distributor that would be perfect for what you are looking for. Bolt them on a 350 and you will be more than happy with the results
