GOOD THING THE MONTE CARLO HAS A 100,000 MILE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY, SO You should be able to get it fixed by them without having to buy a new engine

Default Constant Rattle...

Sound is a constant rattle...change in engine speed or car speed doesn't matter.

It's funny though, because when you hit 15mph the sound stops dead...

It's the DOD...

Default The Fix...

When I brought the car in they had it for a few hours. They called me back later saying that they didn't hear the sound at first, so I was going to go for a drive with them. After I got off the phone, they called back shortly saying they found an article in the Chevy database saying that they found what the sound was and that it is a KNOWN sound. Apparently it's the timing change that controls the AFM (DOD). It happens on many models of cars and SUV's with AFM (DOD). The sound is common and even if they replace the parts, it will come back....
