Default Chevy 383 Stroker monster

Just finished re-building the motor in my 1970 Monte Carlo. The stock 350 just wasen't going to cut it.
SO I DID IT !!!!! For the past year I have been reading up on the process of building a 383 stroker."It's a no brainer" for a little more money insted of building a stock 350 why not build a fire breathing monster. I would say it cost $300-$600 extra maybe a little more BUT it's Sooo worth it. I'm not saying the it only cost what I stated earlier, the total cost was around $1200-$1600 parts and machine work. I got my kit from http://greenbaypartsworld.com . GREAT place ck them out. It well worth it, the power is excellent.. great low end torque... high RPM and I was using stock parts (ie) heads, carb, intake ect ect.. I did just get a new carb and intake, up dated to an HEI distributor, Edelbrock peformer 750 cfm carb & intake. I cant wait to install the goodies and get the motor dialed in.
I have been told that the Heads are TREMDOUS help, no such thing as to big, Go big or go home, to light no such thing yada yada. HEADS are what really sets this beast on FIRE!!!
If I can help let me know and I'll try if I can.Sorry if the spelling sucks and I know my grammer teacher would be shaking
her head but that was never my strong suit.
PS If any one has all-ready also built a 383 I would love to get to gether I know this is just the tip of the iceburg for this monster
I can use the help.

I think I speak for everyone when I say: VIDEO...MUST HAVE VIDEO!! I wanted to put a 383 stroker in my 1990 silverado, but when I moved to the states, I had to sell the truck, so no time. Ah...someday. someday.

Anyway...PLEASE post a vid.

SORRY BiggJ
I have one problem I still live in the stone age (no video recorder no not even my cell phone).I wish I could show you,the 383 sure gave it a kick in the *** a LARGE KICK at that.
I used the old first gen. 350 4 bolt main yours is the newer LS1 and there is not much differance in the builds but there are a few, nothing big. As for fuel side I'm not sure what they do (ie) injectors, computer chips ect.. ect... BUT YOU CAN BE SURE OF THIS IT WILL ONLY BE much MUCH BETTER more H/P
There was just an whole GREAT BIG How to in the

No, not military...but seriously considering it.

I moved here from the Cayman Islands in early '02 right after 9/11. I was born a U.S. citizen through my mother, but I had never lived and worked in the U.S. (only visit many times on vacations) I found out that, in order to retain my dual-citizenship status, I had to come and acquire my SSN before my 21st birthday. I got it just 4 days before I turned 21!! I came to Las Vegas because a family friend who was originally from Fresno, CA was getting transferred back to the U.S for work (Charles Schwab). He asked if I wanted to come...perfect timing.

Life up here has been good to me. God bless the USA, and bless our troops overseas.

I have an 85 monte with a 383 stroker in it. I am using an octane booster and the best pump gas I can get and I have a bit of ping under load. I have played with the timing and have gotten to where I can live with it for now but I know I have to get it right. I did not build this motor. It runs very strong and sounds great. Here is where maybe someone can help. The car originally had a six in it and now has a 383. My gauges do not work so I have no temp or oil light or gauge to let me know what is going on. There is a sending unit on the block with no wire for the temp.I have not found the oil pressure switch yet. I see the place to connect a wire to the dizzy for the tach but again I can not find any wires. Volt meter works and the gas gauge works. Because this was a six and is now an eight could I use a wire in the original wiring harness for these gauges or do I have to run all new wiring?? any help would be great.
Thanks viking

Since the car had a 6 cylinder originally you can use a sending unit for the 6 and your temp gauge should work. Have you checked the distributor to make sure it isn't a tooth off? Are you going lean at high rpm? Centrifugal advance weights in distributor are correct weight and spring pressure?

As far as the tach goes, you'll have to trace the signal wire from the back of the gauge if it isn't present under hood. Same thing with the oil gauge - using the sending unit for a six cylinder.

Thank you I think I figured out what to do. I guess the six did not have some of these gauges so no wires.Looks like the dash has been changed for one that has all these gauges so I will have to run wires for them. I was hoping to just plug a few wires in but if it was that simple a guess it would have already been done..Thank for the help.

Default dash gauges

y2kminutemandid you remove the resister wire in the ing. harness when you converted to hei. you need to do this because you're only getting 9 volts to the dis conection which is hell on the dis. mod.(premature failure) plus it screws up the dwell of the mod. with a point system they put in a resister wire to cut the voltage down to 9 volts as not to burn up the points. .chry. used a bolt on resister that you could replace. i would just run a new wire from the ing. side of the switch to the dis. peferabley a 14 gauge wire. you'll be suprised at the crispness your eng. will have.
