Looking at the pic you posted Frank, I am guessing you got a hole in the UIM that leaked coolant past the egr "stove pipe", which is why the top of the LIM was full of coolant. As you mentioned, it probably was "hydrolocked". It's clear based on that pic, coolant was dumping into the system.

BUT, I don't believe a supercharger has that problem (as the LIM and the S/C are not plastic pieces). But it still could have nylon gasket failures. It's just odd that the noises don't surface unless the car is in a particular gear....

I wouldn't listen to autozone(most of the people there don't know any thing about cars)Like every one said a lifter will make noise in any gear not just one.
If you can get a vid of that might help.I don't know about it being a purge selinoid but it's been a long time since I worked on a newer gen Monte

Ok so I turned my car on today and at idle it started ticking. So now I'm certain its more likely a lifter issue. Any way I can tell the difference between lifter and bearing? What should I do? Can I still drive the car?

The question becomes is the noise up top or down low? Down low, could be a bearing.... Up top, could be a lifter, valve, a longer list of things.

Id still take it in and have it checked out Professionally....

Sometimes a knock can easily be mistaken for a ticking sound....
and some dont know the difference between the 2 different sounds ..IMO

A bad/collasped lifter will produce a light tapping or ticking sound in the valve cover area. A rod bearing will have a heavy knocking sound that is most prominent in the oil pan area. You can use a stethoscope to pin point the origin of the noise. If you don't have one, a piece of fuel or heater hose can be used.

Nothing against the employees of AutoZone, but if the ones in your area are anything like the ones around here they know very little about vehicle diagnostics. I would trust the opinion of the dealer before that of the AutoZone employee. I think that getting an additional diagnosis (as you plan to do Monday) is a good idea at this point.

Yea you should definitely get it checked out by someone who knows their stuff lol
The ticking on mine was also coming from the rear manifold area
