be careful on ebay...i got a spped chip for my 98 monte z34 and it was easy as hell to install but it made my check engine soon light come on. i took the chip off and then the light went off, so i assume my baby simply rejected it.

96 Monte? Is it a Z34? If not, don't waste the money on it for more power. Unless your willing to swap in a 3800. And honestly, if it is a Z34, you should still swap in a 3800.

Don't mean to burst your bubble but the 3.1L and DOHC3.4L really don't have much potential since there's not really any aftermarket for them, maybe a few parts here and there, but otherwise a lost cause.

Now I'm not saying it's impossible to get good power out of either engines, but it's going to take more money than you might be willing to spend. And it'll all be custom work. There's always the turbo route and nitrous oxide of course. But it'd be best to start out with an engine with a larger aftermarket following.
