96 monte carlo ls cooling fan and ac
Hey guys its about the time of the year making sure your motor is running nice a cool becuz of this warm and humid weather (in north carolina). I got a 96 monte carlo ls with a 3.1 motor with 68k on it with fresh top end felpro gasket kit and a tranny with 110k on it. I was wanting to know the size of my radiator/motor cooling fan and if I'm able to put a bigger fan on it without spending a arm and a leg. What size is the oem cooling fan? And my last question is if I'm amble to gut the ac clutch, gut the ac fan, and run a smaller belt on it? If so what size? I appreciate the help guys.

There is no need for a bigger fan really. You could wire your second fan to come on with the first if you want more cooling capacity. I see no reason to delete your ac compressor. When its not on it doesnt spin the compressor just the pulley so removing it wont gain you anything. A smaller belt wont really gain you anything either.
If it's cooler temps your after, this is the progression of mods:
180 or 160 thermostat
Wiring a relay between fan 1 and 2 so that fan 2 comes on when fan 1 does
PCM programing to have the fans come on early. This makes the relay useless
If in a warm climate run just water
Run a bigger z34 or GTP radiator
Take the pass side high speed fan from a GTP and put on driverside replacing the low speed fan.
These are all things I have done to keep temps down as my trany slips when temps reach 190

Yea my tranny slips sumtimes at 50 miles an hour, but I'm not really a master mind with wiring, any tips? Where can I find the gtp fan? I want one with higher cfm, becuz this hot weather is murdering my gas mileage.
Thank you
