Default 95' monte engine swap?

I have a 95 monte z34 and the engine isnt all that great. So i was wondering if there is a kit or something for the 3800 series II engine swap.

Is it plug and play? I was thinking more along the lines of a wiring kit.

Are you saying the engine isnt great as in its worn out, or you arent satisfied with the performance? If you are looking for a more powerful engine, I wouldnt waste your money on a 3800 swap, you wont be satisfied with its performance over the LQ1 unless you plan on modding the 3800 pretty good. If your engine is worn out and you are just looking for a new engine and want something thats easier to maintain, then I understand the 3800 swap.

You will need an engine wiring harness from a 98-99 monte z34 or a 98-99 lumina LTZ as well as the computer. Once you have that, I would go to the junkyard and find a 3800 engine/transmission combo. The trans behind your 95 z34 will not work with the PCM from the 3800 donor car. You need a 4t65e and you have a 4t60e trans. Plus the 4t65e is stronger.

I agree, a straight 3800 NA swap would be a big waste of time. You're going to end up with the same power level. However, for a little more money, you could do an L67 (supercharged 3800) swap and have a lot better performance and a lot more aftermarket parts.

Don't forget that you'll need to convert your car to OBD2.

I looked into switching to the L67, but i also want an engine that lasts a little longer, as in better quality. I agree my tranny is ****. what is OBD2? If i drop the L67 in wont i need to change some off the components like the speedometer?

You do realize the L67 and the NA 3800 (L36) are virtually the same engine right? Also that the transmissions are virtually the same as well? So if you like the quality and reliability of the NA series 2 3800 (L36)- the L67 has those exact same qualities.

what is OBD2?
A system of engine diagnostic codes and such. 1996 was the first year that all manufacturers were required to have this system in place on the cars. It requires specific sensors, and uses a common set of trouble codes- that older cars weren't required to have (your car complies with OBD1 which was what all the early 90's cars had). It also allows emission places to plug into the pcm and check that the car is running ok without having to do a driving simulation test.

Basically, all 96 and newer cars comply with the OBD2 requirements. It shouldn't be a big problem to change- if you swap to a 3800 (L36 or L67) you have to change the engine's wiring harness anyways to that of a 98 or 99 monte Z34- so that upgrades the entire engine bay to OBD2. All you've got to deal with is running the wiring to the OBD plug under the dash (its on the drivers side, its a longer rectangular plug that hangs open just under the dash).

If i drop the L67 in wont i need to change some off the components like the speedometer?
I suggest reading the L67 swap sticky if you haven't already.

The speedometer has nothing to do with the engine swap- and anything you'd have to do to put in an L36 would be about the same for an L67 anyways.

Just get a complete L67/4t65HD powertrain, get a 98/99 monte Z34 engine bay wiring harness (about $150 or less)- get zzp's L67 swap wiring kit (about $20, just two plugs)- and fluids and a few other things, and you're set. Its 95% bolt in (other than the axles which is explained in the swap how to)- and 98% plug in (other than the L67 swap conversion wiring which is 2 plugs, and your OBD2 plug under the dash). Doesn't get much easier than that.
