3.9 Engine upgrades
The trottle cable assembly mod didnt work worth beans for my 04 malibu. After spending the 300 in installation and modifications this is why:
1) Firewall doesnt have a grommet for it. (The monte's may, the malibu didnt. Break out the grommets and the drill!)
2) You will need a different Tb, which means more $. expecially if you went with a northstar one.. I think a 5.3L one would work better, but thats just my 2c...
3) The computer is designed to work with the input of the electonic throttle. If you disconect it, the computer will basically panic, you need to over ride this in the ECM's programming. If your lucky like I was in the malibu, it was relativly painless.
4) The computer reads the foot pedal 52 times per second. Throttle response is better with the cable mod, however I would attibute that partially to the electronic throttles programming. With the electric throttle, you pound it 100%, the computer moves the trottle body servo 100% if the conditions are correct and depending on exactly how it works. If your traction control kicks in the computer adjusts the throttle body down accordingly. With the malibu, the ECM had to be reprogrammed entirelyto "delete" theelectronic throttle completely..Im going to guess that the monte's are the same.
As for the MAF, well in theroy if its more accurate then stock, then it would provide the ECM with better figures and possibly a better mixture, better throttle response... In that light, I imagine a wideband o2 sensor wouldnt be a bad idea either. I wonder what happens if you give this computer highly accurate info?

Hey. No problem. Now Bearing in mind the monte carlos might be different and may respond differently. All I know is from the headache from the Malibu's conversion, and it turned out to not be worth the time, money, and headache. Your results may vary.. lol
