Default 3.8 3800 to 5.7 LS1

I have a 2002 SS and I'm looking at putting an LS1 in it. I was just wondering if it would fit pretty easily and where could I find a conversion kit for my MC? Also, what else is involved in dealing with this swap, what would I have to change/add/remove?

As far as I know, there isn't any sort of conversion kit for this swap, and you would have to replace pretty much everything drivetrain wise.
The LS1 is made for a rear wheel drive car, and our cars have transversely mounted engines and are front wheel drive.
It would have to be a completely custom swap.

There is an LS engine that is set up for FWD cars, and would be an easier swap though. The same engine as in the '06-'07 SS. (LS4?)

However, an LS1 powered monte would be one of the greatest things I've ever seen (esp if it was RWD).
I have heard of people doing LS1/LS2 swaps into these cars, but have never seen it.

If you have the means to fabricate all of the custom parts you'd need, do it. Like I said, it will be awesome.

Ive looked into a swap like this before. The best option would be an LS4 out of the newer monte carlos and grand prixs. Im sure you could use the same suspension and transmission, but the wiring will be hard to do and programming it.

LS1 is not gonna happen- its far too much work. The only one I've ever seen done FWD was a factory Impala done by GM, but they had to make special parts for the accessories because the LS1 is too long with all its stock parts.

Also, I have no idea how they adapted it to fit a FWD trans pattern- because the LS1 is definitely a different pattern than our stock FWD trannys.

If you're talking about doing an LS1 in RWD form, just buy a camaro/TA- it'll be far cheaper in the long run.
