Default is it worth ls1 swap to an 85 ss

i have a 85 monte ss and just had is engine rebuilt for 1 g. i wanted to know what should i do because i want a manual transmission and was thinking of putiing a ls1 in it. is it worth it ? how much will it cost ? whats beter if my goal is to have a 10 second car? will the stock motor be able to do this?

Well you tell me, these are the 3 pics I have from one of the nicest 4th gen Montes I've ever seen. Saw it at Monte Madness 2005 where it was also on the dyno and made 350+WHP. Very cool guy that owned the car, did all the work himself, with exception of paint.

man thats fuking nice. there is a video on yahoo with a 85 monte carlo with a ls1 swap at the 1/4 mile you should chek it out
go to yahoo. then videos. then type in monte carlo ss. and klik on the one that sais ricks ls1 monte ....

Well, what did u decide to do. I haven't been on in a little while and didn't see this. 6 speed is the way to go and an LS1 would be oh so nice. Power isn't a problem at all and price just depends on what u can get the donor for AND the wiring.

an ls1 swap will cost you alot 4-5k but its an instant 300hp

so then its probably not worth it, just buy a crate 350 to drop in or a build a supercharged 350 which can be done for less than 4-5k

no way u can do a 350 supercharged crate motor for 4-5 k.....dam man if u could let me kno were form....im doin an lt1 swap in an 85 monte.....so far with the motor only costin me 800 bucks and the t56 trans is gunna be about another grand.i also have to custom my motor mounts....custom lenth driveshaft..new rear end...i have to get all the parts connect up the new trans cuz im switchin it over to stick from auto...i have to rewire the harness to adapt to my old skool parts....i have ta tune the computer to remove the egr and and the after cat sparkpluga nd rev limiter and top speed limiter and mad other ****...man im lookin rigth now at 6k....
....theres no way u ca be under 5 k with a supercharger. and u can trhow a new motor on an old tans without rebuildin it....and supercharger alon will run about 4-5 k....sorry man....enigine sare money dude
