Arrow 3.4L engine tick/ L67 swap

I have a 2002 LS and it has ticked since I bought it last July. It doesn't bother me but it is something I would like to get fixed. Anyone know what it could be and how to fix it?

If my motor was bad, does anyone know how to do a L67 swap into it? I know the tranny and motor will fit my car but instead of reqiring the whole thing, does anyone sell a wiring harness that will just allow me to plug and go?

The 3100/3400 engines are known for a valve tick. They all vary a little. As long as the tick is upper engine related, it typically should be nothing to be concerned with, it's in the design.

If you are asking to fix the normal valve tick found in the 3100/3400 that I mentioned, I'm going to say "no, there is no way to fix it". It's how the engine was designed, so it's not "broken" and nor have I heard of anyone modifying it to stop the tick.

Now I am aware of very few cases where the car has a loud tick, almost banging and as the car warms up, it disappears. My wife's old '94 Grand Am is one of those cars. It was suspected to be a "sticking lifter". We began adding Motor Honey or Rislone shortly after each oil change. By about the 5th change, that noise completely stopped and the additive was no longer required.

But it still had the common "tick" sound these engines make.

The noise isnt very loud. But after i have driven a while and leave it running, the sound stops. But if i shut it off, warm or not, it will tick when i start it again.

It sounds like it's the regular tick. You can try adding Rislone or Motor Honey with an oil change and see what happens, if the noise goes away... But again, if it's the tick that is just in the design, then the additive won't do anything.

and to answer the swap question you would look for and engine, trans, harness, and pcm from the same body monte SS ideally another 02. would pretty much be a direct swap

Maniac- where would i go about getting motor honey? And is going to say motor honey right on the bottle?

phoenix - Do you know much more about doing the swap? I want to know about what i would be looking at spending and how hard it truly is. And with the harness, do I have to rewire the whole thing or is it a plug and go type thing?

Most any auto parts stores sell both Rislone and Motor honey (typically in the same area as all other fluid additives). And it should say motor honey. If not, there are other "like" products. When you look at the products, they appear as a rather thick oil (and move very slow in the bottle).

For the swap you will need to get a copy of the c100 and PCM wire diagram for your existing car and the harness you are getting the car out of. Then you can compare and see if anything changed. Mainly you are concerned with the c100 where the harness meets the firewall. So info like your rpm is sent to the dash and not to the fuel pump or trunk release! Normally it's only a few wires that need to be moved and then it all plugs in like stock
