3.1L Help for performance
I have a 98 3.1L LS Monte. I was just wondering what would be some good choices of performace for this style of engine. I know most performace stuff is for the 3.8L but it is the car i got so there is not much to change about the engine. But what would be good performance upgrades for the 3.1L for a reasonable price? Thanks

RE: 3.1L Help for performance
I would start with exhaust, and then go from there, I know they make performance chips. You could also look into a Cold Ait Intake kit for it. Just a start, If you use the search engine for the forum im sure you will find a lot more. Good luck.

What type of performance chips would be best. I know that my 3.1L has a computer thatdoes not accept chips but might have to be reprogrammed. Any Ideas? Also how would I make a cold air intake for the car?

RE: 3.1L Help for performance
if you go to my cardomain site i have write ups on how to do a few diff versions of CAI.
for exhaust, i would leave the stock Cat and from there back do 2.5" pipe and your mufflers of choice... flowmasters are great for sound and magnaflow are great for performance.
other ideas are upgrading your Throtle body. they sell these at 60degreeV6.com
some people even go as far as taking a lot of parts from a 3400 motor and puting it on your 3100. (FYI 3.1L were an older verision of motor... you have a 3100 )

RE: 3.1L Help for performance
if your car is 98 you have a 3100 and not a 3.1 and there is lots of things you can do to it but not to many in the cheap
depending on your buget a 3400 swap would be the best option be cause it opens up doors for alot of new upgrades that you cant do with the 3100 block 3500 heads are the best for our motors but they only fit the 3400 bore some say it will fit a 3100 with a .060 but i am not sure along with the 3500 heads the intakes are better too so built right it would be 1 good performer
but i mildlly built 3400 i pretty good too i got a 3400 in my Z24 right now it is stock with udp and headers and exhaust system and it's pretty good

RE: 3.1L Help for performance
well if you are on a bugetthen you should go with a 3400 top end swap it's good for 20-30 hp so that's a good start to the 170 hp that is stock you can go with a udp system that is good for 7-10 hp a cold air kit that is good for 10-15 hp ecu reprogram ,a good exhaust system with that you should be good for at lease 210 hp !!!!
