Default 26 spline to 28 spline conversion

New to this forum and was wondering if anybody out there has converted their 26 spline axles to 28 spline. I own an '87 LS that I've installed a stocker 383 into and want a stronger rear end to handle the extra power.
The abundance of 28 spline posi units out there makes this swap very attractive. Not to mention the fact the 28 spline axles are that much stronger it only make sense from a cost point of view. I have a good idea how I'm going to do this but was wondering if anyone else out there had attempted it.

Its been a while since I have done just that sorta thing... I'm guessing your running a 10 bolt rear end... To resolve the spline issue (This is what I did) I converted mine to a mini spool instead of a posi unit... I killed 2 birds with one stone... I live in Michigan and had it done at DTS..(Drive Train Speacialists) I race that car for over 10 yrs and never once had a rear end/axle failure... Some thing to consider..

I've been there and done that. I killed two sets of gears with a mini spool this summer. So that's why I what to convert the axles. I'm going to have the axles from a late 90's early 2000's Chev Blazer shorten up 3/8" which is about the distance from the c-clip groove to the end of the axle. Then have a machine shop groove the axle for the c-clip 3/8" in from that end.

I believe if that's the case...

I would convert it using a ford rear end and that should solve all your problems... its not unheard of or a lengthy project to do... sometimes the simplest ideas are the best resolve. lot of old school drag racers and circle trackers have gone that route... with great results... that would convert it to a pig type making gear changes etc a lot simpler and faster... not to forget the reliability... or get a 12 bolt from an older style SS chevelle!
