2005 Engine Swap question

2005 Engine Swap question
Hey I bought a 2005 Monte Carlo LS 3.4L. I was wondering if it is possible to swap the 3.4L for a 3.8L LT engine so I can eventually supercharge it. If it is possible what else would I need?? I am thinking new transmission, but I wasn't sure about motor mounts, harness ect.
Thanks to anyone who can help me.

What he said. I'd like someone else to come behind us and tell you about the transmission. I take it you've got a 3.4 in a 2005, and I do'nt know which transmission that is... I know the 3800 ran a 4T65-E and and I'm thinking the supercharged may have ran the 4T65-HD or something... I know there was a different ratio (I think the non supercharged ran a 3.23 and the supercharged ran a 2.73), but whether or not they were different transmissions, I cannot say for sure with absolute integrity. It does need to be considered.
But hey, it's not a bad idea at all, put a lot more pep in that cars step! I'm all for it!! I'm thinking the frame mounts (where the motor bolts in) are all the same... same radiator I think, so no worries there.... the biggest problem is probably going to be the money!

The 3.4L in the 2000-2005 all use the 4t65e transmission. IIRC it is a 3.05 gear ratio.
The L36 (3.8L n/a) uses the 4t65e with a 3.29 gear ratio.
The L67 (3.8L s/c) uses the 4t65e-HD with a 2.93 gear ratio.
Aside from the difference in the gear ratios, the only difference between the 4t65e and the 4t65e-HD is that the HD version got a hardened differential and differential cover (and uses a different passenger side axle as a result). Contrary to popular belief, the differential is not a weak point in either of these transmissions, unless you're abusing the car. The input shaft and transmission chain tend to be the first stock parts to break under increased power.
As Chichiblacksheep said, there are a few threads about this around. Search both here and the internet and you will find lots of information.

Thanks for the quick responses. I found an L67 Crate so now I just have to start saving. Cowboy is right the only problem is saving up the money to do the project. When I finally get this Engineering Job That Should be a lot easier.

Its already been answered, but I agree with everyone else, just buy an L67 for your swap to begin with instead of getting an L36, and then supercharging that.
If you can get an HD trans with the L67, then I say swap them both. However, if you can't get the trans too, and find a great deal on just the engine, I THINK (not positive) you can just bolt the L67 to your stock tranny. You just won't have the HD differential, which as mentioned already is not a huge weak point anyway. Then you will have 3.05 gearing, so you'll actually have a little more off the line pep then a stock L67.
