2003 Monte Carlo SS
Hello everyone, been a wile.
Had a quick question, what is the final drive on a non-sc SS from 2003? I was always believed it was 3.29 but looking at the ZZP description on the HD kit it's telling me it's 3.05. Even Dave at TEP (where I will be getting a HP2 trans from) believe it was 3.29.

Going to email ZZP now but just wanted to ask here first for maybe a quicker response.
Thank you

According to the shop book for the 2003 Monte, it could have a final drive ratio of: 2.86, 3.05 or 3.29.
And if you want to confirm what your car came with, check the RPO sticker under your trunk lid. Again, per the 2003 shop book, here are the RPO codes for 2003:
FQ3 - Ratio, Transaxle Final Drive, 2.86
FR9 - Ratio, Transaxle Final Drive, 3.29
F83 - Ratio, Transaxle Final Drive, 3.05

That shop book answer could easily just be so that the makers of the book only need to write 1 version of certain sections, with RPO codes to delineate based on cars.
I really don't think any N/A Monte Carlos came with a transmission other than 3.29

Lesson for the future, snap a pic of the RPO sticker lol. I did that on mine just so I did not have to go to the car to check it. Only way I would trust a VIN look up is if you got it direct from GM, otherwise, trust what is on your RPO sticker.
My gut says Chibi is probably right about your answer.
